​ICSID held a symposium in its’ Paris offices on June 24, 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ICSID Convention.  The symposium began in the morning with an introduction to ICSID process from the initiation of a claim to post-award remedies.  In the afternoon conference, Prof. Pierre-Marie Dupuy moderated a panel on the characteristics of the current generation of investment treaties, and how these might change the investor-State arbitration landscape​. The presenters were Mr. Colin Brown, who spoke about the EU model; Dr. Jean Ho, who spoke about the Trans-Pacific Partnership and other Asian treaties; Mr. Thierry Kalonji, who spoke about recent developments under African treaties; and Dr. Mathieu Raux, who provided insight into the French model treaty approach. The second panel covered a broad range of current topics including the definition of investment, conflict of interest, and addressing the cost of proceedings.  The session was moderated by the Secretary-General, Meg Kinnear, and the speakers were Dr. Yas Banifatemi, Professor Albert Jan van den Berg, Mr. Juan Fernández-Armesto, Professor Emmanuel Gaillard, Professor Christoph Schreuer and Mr. V.V. Veeder QC.

Symposium attendees were provided with detailed materials, including two updated focus issues of ICSID statistics on cases involving EU States and investors from EU members and cases involving African States and African investors.
