​ICSID is pleased to announce that Chiara Giorgetti, Professor of Law at Richmond School of Law, has joined ICSID as Scholar in Residence.

Professor Giorgetti is a renowned scholar in the areas of public international law, international arbitration, and international courts and tribunals. She has published extensively on these topics, including in the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law, the University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Law, the Georgetown Journal of International Law, and the American Journal of International Law. She is the editor of Challenges and Recusal of Arbitrators and Judges in International Courts and Tribunals (2015); Litigating International Investment Disputes - A Practitioner’s Guide (2014), and The Rules, Practice and Jurisprudence of International Courts and Tribunals (2012).

Professor Giorgetti is Chair of the Academic Council of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration and a member of the Academic Forum on ISDS. She is an elected member of the American Law Institute (ALI) and Vice-President of the American Branch of the International Law Association. She has also served as a member of the Executive Council and Executive Committee of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) and co-chaired the ASIL Annual Meeting.

Prior to joining the Richmond Law faculty in 2012, Professor Giorgetti practiced international arbitration in Washington, D.C., and Geneva, Switzerland, and worked extensively with the United Nations in New York and Somalia. She also served as counsel in several inter-State disputes, including the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Dispute and the Eritrea-Ethiopia Claims Commission. Professor Giorgetti clerked at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

As Scholar in Residence, Professor Giorgetti will focus on a number of special assignments with the ICSID Secretariat, including research on a possible Code of Conduct of Arbitrators, and a range of other research projects aimed at building knowledge and awareness of international investment dispute settlement.

Professor Giorgetti is ICSID’s second Scholar in Residence. Professor Andrea Bjorklund, Professor of Law at McGill University’s Faculty of Law, held the position in 2014.
