ICSID is pleased to announce that it has entered into an Agreement on General Arrangements with the Japan International Dispute Resolution Center (JIDRC). The agreement was signed on behalf of ICSID by Meg Kinnear, Secretary-General of ICSID, and on behalf of JIDRC by Yoshimitsu Aoyama, President of JIDRC, during a ceremony in Tokyo.

The Agreement is based on Article 63 of the ICSID Convention and provides for the possibility of holding ICSID hearings at JIDRC’s facilities, reinforcing ICSID's truly global presence and services. The Agreement also encourages knowledge sharing between ICSID and the JIDRC related to arbitration, conciliation, mediation, and other methods of dispute resolution.

“JIDRC has established truly state-of-the art hearing facilities in Tokyo and Osaka, and we welcome the opportunity to make those available to parties to ICSID proceedings,” said Ms. Kinnear. “ICSID also supports JIDRC’s mission of promoting international arbitration and mediation in Japan, and we look forward to working together further strengthen knowledge and capacity amongst Japan’s legal, business and government professionals.”
