ICSID co-hosted the Mauritius International Arbitration Conference held on December 16 and 17, 2014. Panels chaired by representatives of the co-hosting institutions considered current and emerging issues in international arbitration under the theme “The Litmus Test: Challenges to Awards and Enforcement of Awards in Africa.”

ICSID Team Leader, Aurélia Antonietti, moderated a panel on the Recognition and Enforcement of Awards.  While the ICSID Convention provides a simplified mechanism for the recognition and enforcement for ICSID awards, awards rendered pursuant to the Additional Facilities Rules are recognized and enforced primarily through the New York Convention. In a lively Panel,  Lord Mance reviewed the framework for recognition and enforcement of legal awards in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, Mr. Ace Anan Ankomah described the legal framework in Ghana, Mr. Moorari Gujadhur discussed the Mauritian perspective and recent case law while Prof. Pierre Mayer examined the liberal position adopted by French courts.
