Designations by Contracting States of Constituent Subdivisions or Agencies (ICSID/8-C)

Article 25(1) of the ICSID Convention extends the jurisdiction of ICSID to any legal dispute arising directly out of an investment between a Contracting State or a constituent subdivision or agency designated by that State, and a national of another Contracting State. Article 25(3) of the ICSID Convention adds that consent by a constituent subdivision or agency of a State requires approval of that State unless the State notifies the Centre that no such approval is required.

ICSID maintains a list of the designations by Contracting States under Article 25(1) and (3) of the ICSID Convention.
