​On December 11, 2015, ICSID hosted the 32nd AAA-ICDR/ICC/ICSID Joint Colloquium on International Arbitration in Washington, D.C. on the theme “Modernization of Arbitration – New Approaches to Continuing Challenges.”

The event covered a wide range of topics, including conflicts of interest and codes of conduct; preparation, direct examination and cross-examination of fact witnesses; institutional appointments vs. party appointments; effective deliberation for arbitrators, and the role of counsel and institutional secretaries; and appellate and review mechanisms.  The keynote address was delivered by Judge Christopher J. Greenwood of the International Court of Justice on the challenges to investor-State arbitration.
