Vol. 31(1) of the ICSID Review is now available online and in print. This volume celebrates the 50th anniversary of ICSID and the 30th anniversary of the ICSID Review with three issues focusing on three special themes of interest.

This first special focus issue, guest edited by Lu Wang (Xi’an Jiaotong University and University of Liverpool) and Norah Gallagher (Queen Mary University of London), explores a variety of topics involving State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in international investment law and investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS). The notes first examine the roles of States as foreign investors and the standing of SOEs as claimants in ISDS; next consider security risks posed by SOEs and non-discrimination treatment afforded to such entities; and finally evaluate new international investment agreements, investment policies and regulation in regional contexts, including in Canada, China, and the United States. This issue also contains several case comments, notes, and the winning submissions to the annual Student Writing Competition.
