The Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) was established to address the legal challenges that arise in cross-border investment in the energy sector. It provides a multilateral framework for energy cooperation that is unique under international law. The ECT was designed to promote energy security through the operation of more open and competitive energy markets, while also respecting the principles of sustainable development and sovereignty over energy resources.

This conference on May 11, 2018, in Paris, examines key issues in international arbitration through the lens of energy-sector dispute settlement. Leading arbitration practitioners, legal experts, academics and arbitral institutions will explore:

•   Advocacy in international arbitration involving energy disputes

•   Settling investment disputes without tribunal rulings

•   Damage calculations in international arbitration

•   Cybersecurity in international arbitration and mediation

Organized by the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), Energy Charter Secretariat (ECS), and Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA). Hosted by ICSID. Media partner: Transnational Dispute Management (TDM).
