Gabriela Alvarez Avila is Deputy Secretary-General of ICSID.
Ms. Alvarez joined ICSID in April 2026. She was elected Deputy Secretary-General in February 2026.
Ms. Alvarez worked at ICSID from 2000 to 2007, advancing to the position of Senior Counsel. In 2007, she joined Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle as counsel and became partner in 2008. In 2021, she became a partner at DLA Piper and co-led the Latin America Arbitration Practice Group.
Ms. Alvarez holds degrees from the University of Geneva (D.E.S.) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (J.D.). She is admitted to the bar in Mexico.
She speaks English, French, and Spanish.
